This guide explains how to download your Proxy-Cheap VPN configuration and connect using the WireGuard app on macOS.
Before starting, make sure you have an active Proxy-Cheap VPN subscription.
Important: Your WireGuard
.conffile contains sensitive VPN credentials. Do not edit, share or publish the file.
Install WireGuard
- Download and install WireGuard for macOS from the official WireGuard website:
https://www.wireguard.com/install/
Download your VPN configuration
- Open your VPN subscription in the Proxy-Cheap dashboard.
- Select Download Credentials.
- Choose your preferred server location.
- Click Download to save the WireGuard
.conffile to your Mac.
Import the configuration
- Open the WireGuard app.
- Click Import tunnel(s) from file.
3. Select the .conf File you downloaded and click Import.
4. When macOS asks for permission to add a VPN configuration, click Allow. Authenticate with your Mac password or Touch ID if prompted.
Connect to the VPN
- Select the imported tunnel in the WireGuard app.
- Click Activate.
When the connection is active, WireGuard displays a green status indicator, and the status changes to Active.
Check the connection
Open your browser and confirm that your public IP address has changed and shows the VPN server location you selected.
You can also check the WireGuard app for a recent handshake and transmitted data. These indicate that the tunnel is connected and traffic is passing through it.
Disconnect from the VPN
Open WireGuard, select the active tunnel, and click Deactivate.
Troubleshooting
If the VPN does not connect:
- Confirm that your Proxy-Cheap VPN subscription is active.
- Make sure you imported the correct
.conffile. - Download a new configuration file if the existing one is outdated or damaged.
- Check that another VPN connection is not already active.
- Contact our Support team if the tunnel remains inactive.
