Yes, you can switch between HTTP and SOCKS5 for eligible proxies. Available protocols depend on the proxy type and network, so the options displayed in your Proxy-Cheap dashboard are the source of truth for the selected proxy.
Change the proxy protocol
- Log in to your Proxy-Cheap dashboard.
- Open My Proxies and select the proxy you want to update.
- Find Protocol in the Proxy Overview and click Change.
- Select HTTP or SOCKS5 from the available options.
- Confirm the change.
If Change or the protocol you need is not displayed, it is not currently available for that proxy.
After switching
Update the protocol in every browser, application, or automation tool that uses the proxy. Existing connections may disconnect when the protocol changes, so test the connection again after saving the new setting.

SOCKS5 can route TCP traffic from applications that support SOCKS proxies and can use remote DNS when the application supports
socks5h.
Changing the protocol does not change the proxy IP or location, increase the connection speed, or increase the concurrent connection limit.
Proxy-Cheap SOCKS5 connections support TCP, not UDP relay. If your application requires UDP, switching to SOCKS5 will not make that traffic compatible.
